Homework Expectations

September 2024

EYFS, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two

Homework will be sent home on a Friday and will be expected to be returned the following Thursday. This allows time for marking and feedback before more homework is set.

Daily Expectations for all pupils (EYFS/KS1/KS2):

  1. Daily reading
  2. Daily practise and consolidation of number facts and times tables and related division facts and/or number bonds
  3. Daily practise and consolidation of spelling: common exception words, appropriate spelling rules, using Spelling Shed where appropriate
  4. Daily practise and consolidation of handwriting using Letter Joi

Weekly Expectations:

  1. For KS1/KS2, consolidation of reading and grammar skills and knowledge through a CGP ‘10 minute test’
  2. For KS1/KS2, consolidation of maths skills and knowledge through a CGP ‘10 minute test’
  3. For EYFS and Year 1, weekly English and maths challenges will be provided by the class teacher.

Ad Hoc Assignments:

  1. At the class teacher’s discretion, topic based challenges may be set for the children to complete. This may be around any Foundation subject and could involve, research, designing and making, writing, reading, use of a computer etc. Deadlines for these assignments will be set by the teacher.

Recognition:

  1. Daily reading will be checked daily by classroom staff - reading records need to be signed by somebody at home. Children are expected to read at least 5 times a week. Children will be able to individually earn rewards as they read. Whole class treats can be worked towards across a term. If a class cumulatively reads at least 1000 times a term, they will receive a whole class treat. This decreases to 500 times for EYFS due to class size. Each class will have a window display to show the class progress.
  2. If a child reads 35 or more times in a half term, they will be entered into an end of year raffle. One child from each class will be chosen from the raffle at the end of the school year and will receive book tokens.
  3. Weekly assignments will be rewarded with house points.
  4. Teachers will recognise outstanding homework at their discretion through value badges/stickers/verbal praise.
